11月20日 What If You Could Wave a Magic Wand?During parent/teacher conferences, I had one parent ask me a fantastic question: If you could wave a magic wand, what would you do to make school a better place?
The one thing I would do if it was in my power, is immediately create an ethos of partnership and a habit of respectful and open communication between all parents and all teachers. There is far too much gossip, misinformation, and mistrust in today's public schools. And the blame rests equally on both sides.
There are many terrific, trusting, and open parents at my school. And there are many fantastic, professional, and welcoming teachers. But still, there are too many individuals who sow seeds of discontent.
Too many parents assume incompetence and forget that teachers are as diverse as any other group. There are too many teachers unwilling to communicate and change with the times. And there is a derth of understanding between us all. If only we talked, trusted, accepted, listened, and loved each other - it is our children who would be the beneficiaries. コメント (1 件)
