Saturday Dec 17 - Shoving Off

(John) The day started very early for us. I was up by 5am. Gene soon followed. The early arrisal was necessary due to the fact that I had to go bowling. Missing a night of league play requires members to bowl early. Once that was complete, we soon called a cab and headed to SeaTac.

Currently I'm writing at 3pm while waiting in the San Pedro cruise terminal. We are boarding in group 35. Presently, group 28 is going through security.

It's already been a long day. It took a full hour for our luggage to make its way from the plane to the baggage carousel at LAX. Ridiculous! Then we waited for our transfer bus. That was followed by waiting in line for Princess check-in, and now waiting for security and boarding. thank goodness there traffic on the 405 was light.

Though these early steps in the process have been slow, there have been no disasters so I am grateful. I packed my patience. My only regret is we have had nothing to eat. There are no vendors here in the cruise terminal, nor were there any in our section of LAX. We were expecting to be on the ship in time for a late lunch - about 2pm but that time is well past. I don't expect to board until almost 4pm. Oh well, I'm sure we will do plenty of eating in the coming days. A little fasting may be beneficial to our waistlines.

It's almost midnight now. We are onboard and snuggled into our wonderful mini-suite. I had an arrangement of flowers waiting for my special husbear. He got a little choked up! Guess I don't do that sort of thing enough.

We spent some time at sail-away meeting other gay and lesbian couples during a little champagne party sponsored by Princess got the gay and lesbian passengers. That was a pleasant way to start the cruise.

Dinner was at 8pm and quite enjoyable. Our dining partners are great. There is a wide variety of personalities in our group - and three of us are teachers! Gene had prime rib and I had the seafood stuffed pastry.

We finished the night by attending the first show in the Princess Theatre. They presented a short but splashy song and dance routine, along with a musical introduction of the cruise staff. The show was capped off by a hilarious magician/comedian routine. He got me laughing so hard I started to cry.

The day may have started slowly but things have really picked up now. What a great start!

What a wonderful time you must've had, even with the obligtory waiting!
I've never been on a cruise myself, so I look forward to reading more about your experiences.
It was surely a wondrful time for you and Gene to share; a happy memory...
